No Drawing on Labor Day!

We'll be taking a break from drawing on Labor Day. Please join us on Monday, Sept. 8th, when a male model will be posing for us.

The Long PoseMatt Austin

It was a great night of 5 short, 2 minute poses, 1 - 30 minute and then an hour long pose. When the model is willing, the long pose gives the artist a chance to really develop a drawing.  To step back, make corrections, add shading and depth and relax into the work a little more. 

Breanne will be posing for us on Monday August 25th.

Practice, Practice ...

No matter how many times I've posted the various "how to's" of figure drawing I'm always surprised how quickly I forget them when I've missed a month (or more). I put pencil to paper too quickly without first observing the figure, I use my eraser too much or I fail to get the entire figure on the paper. It's true, life drawing for an artist is the equivalent of practicing scales for a musician and by maintaining a routine my line is more fluid, I'm more relaxed, I don't overthink it and I take time to observe.

We welcomed some new artists last Monday and missed some of the "regulars". My thanks to all those that continue to weekly Life Drawing in Fredericksburg.

As Promised ...

We'll be drawing at Dragonfly Yoga, 810 Caroline Street on Monday August 4th from 7:30 - 10:00 pm.
It's been a while and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. It'll be great to get back into the "routine" drawing with everyone.
