Fredericksburg Figure Drawing will no longer be meeting. Started eight years ago by local artist Susan Ishii and then continued by Bruce Day, Fredericksburg Figure Drawing has been the go to place for area artists interested in working from the live nude. Anyone who has participated over the years knows the excitement and congeniality of a live session.

For those in need of a life drawing fix, there has been discussion of continuing some form of live figure drawing at Art First on Caroline Street. Another option is The Art League School in Alexandria, VA. They host multiple open figure sessions throughout the week. There are venues in Richmond, VA and some scattered around the area. Perhaps, one might even start their own small group.
Our Monday, May 14th figure drawing session is canceled due to the heat.
Regular attendees of figure drawing at 923 1/2 Caroline Street know the space isn't conducive to extremes in temperature. With no central heating or air conditioning makeshift solutions only go so far. 90 plus degrees is too far.
Here is hoping everyone can find a cool place and a willing model over the summer. Check this space in September.
No two live figure drawing sessions are alike. The mix of artists, the mood of the model and any number of other variables all combine to give every session its own unique character. What all sessions have in common, however, is that they provide an opportunity to connect ones art directly to our humanity. There simply no substitute for working from the live nude.
Our next and final session for the season will be Monday, May 14th at 7:00pm.

The background music for Monday's session was a deep tracks rock and roll station. The conversation with the model touched on some deep topics. Drawing seemed to take everyone to a good place.
Our next session will be Monday, April 23rd. We will host a female model.

Several artists arrived late for Monday's figure drawing session. Busy schedules, threatening weather - who knows. Working in a group requires one to be flexible and deal with changing circumstances. Once settled in everyone enjoyed the excellent poses of a veteran model.
Our next session will be Monday, March 26th at 7:00pm. There will be a female model.
